Ch. 14 ~Children of Mine~

Chapter 14
~These children of mine~

Hi everyone!
Here is my next post, chapter 14!
I hope that you enjoy it, please drop a comment with your opinion, they really make my day!

To understand some of this post it's important that you've read the latest post in Becks Bests challenge:

Also, I want to give a big thank you thundrwilowrose for their gift!
My children's bathroom is finally complete thanks to these cute caterpillar wall hooks!
The gift really warmed my heart, so thank you so much!

Enjoy!

The phone rang in the middle of the night and I awoke with the start.
Becks...the triplets...what if something happened?!
I ripped my phone off my night stand and slammed my finger on the answer button.
"Becks? Are the girls ok?!" I asked in panic.
"Logan?" A familar voice said over the line. I paused not recognizing it.
"This is him." I answered, checking the time. 2 am.
"Logan it's Emily..." She answered. I perked up immediately. Emily was my oldest sister.
"Emily? Is everything alright?" I asked her, getting out of bed.
"It's...I'm sorry Logan, dad passed 5 minutes ago..." she sighed, before breaking into sobs.
"It's ok...It's ok Emily...I'll be right there." I said.
I clicked my cellphone shut.
My dad was dead.

Emily embraced me, still smelling like that girly teenage sister I'd always known.
So much had changed, yet at the same time, it was like no time had passed.
"It was awful Logan...he was fine...and then a couple hours later..." she broke down in my arms.
"I know...it's awful...I'm sorry..." I said, stroking her back.
"I should've called you sooner Logan..." Emily said, her arms wrapped around herself.
"No it's fine, you can't blame yourself." I told them.
"It just...it was so fast." she said, staring off into the distance.
I nodded.

"Uncle Logan!" My niece Sarah cheered, embracing me as well.
"Hey Sarah? How have you been?" I asked her, smiling warmly.
"Pretty good up until...this..." she said slowly.
"Abigail is going to be so happy to see you!" she told me grinning.
I smiled, I also had a special place in my heart for Sarah's twin sister Abigail.

"I got you something!" I told her, almost having forgotten with all the hugs.
"Really? Uncle Logan, you didn't have to do that!" She said with a blush.
"Happy 17th birthday Sarah!" I said handing her a present.
"Awesome! A turtle habitat!" She squealed, and I smiled at her love of animals.

"I actually got something for you too!" she told me happily.
I thanked her and unwrapped the gift carefully.
"It's...a pink bunny..." I said, slightly confused.
"Yeah I saw your profile pic on face book. Embarrassing much?" She laughed and I smiled at her.
"She's been working on a new piece on piano to show you!" Sarah said excitedly, before rushing off up the stairs, presumably to get Abigail.

I turned back to my sister.
"So...how is mom handling this?" I asked Emily, not really wanting to know.
Emily cringed noticeably.
"Well...you know mom..." Emily said scratching her head.
"LOGYYYYYYY!!!! COME AND SEE MOMMY DEAREST!!!" I heard a shrill voice call.

I walked into Emily's living room where I saw my dear sweet mother.
That was sarcasm.
She looked the same as always, her powder white hair perfectly curled up while she sat up straight in her pastel suit and skirt set.
It was hard to believe this was once a fun loving overall wearing mom.
"Logy! Darling! Look at you!" She said, reaching out for my hand. I hesitated and offered it, allowing her to squeeze it.
"Mother. I'm so sorry." I commented, trying not to grimace at her wrinkly tight grip.
"Well you should be! I haven't seen you in ages! Where are my grandchildren?!" She snapped, letting go of my hand immediately.
Just as I said, nothing had changed.

"I mean I'm sorry about dad." I clarified.
"Oh, yes, sweet Stuart. Such a tragedy." she said, holding a pasty hand up to her heart.
I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes.
"He was a great man." I said honestly.
I'm pretty sure now she was the one suppressing the urge to roll her eyes.
"Yes." she said stiffly.

"My kids are actually here, they are right-" I turned to point them out and saw Adele shaking her head no.
I felt her pain, I wouldn't want to meet my mother either.
"They must have run off." I said with a fake smile.
"Nonsense! Do not let my grandchildren run like wilder beasts! Where are the young ones?!" She asked in her shrill voice.
I grabbed Mia before she could escape.
"Mom, this is Mia." I said, holding her out toward my mother. Mia scowled in displeasure.

"What a doll! Aren't you just a lil sweetpea hunny!" my mother said, tugging Mia out of my arms.
I had meant to hold Mia up for viewing...not hand her over to my mom...my poor child...
"Look at those blond curls! Just like your grandma!" She cooed.
Mia glared at me, and reached her little chubby arms out to go back to me.
Before I could reach out and take her back my mom was off again.
"Oh and those little cheeks!" She said.
Then she made a deadly mistake.
My mother reached out...and took a hold of Mia's cheek...pinching it.

Before my mother could coo at Mia more my mother screamed. Emily came running in with a tray of medicine.
"Mom?!" Emily shouted, before stopping short in her tracks.
Mia had clamped her mouth down on my mother's hand. Fangs and all.
I quickly untangled Mia from my mother while Emily tried in vain not to laugh.
"What is wrong with that...that...that thing?!" my mother screeched.
"My child is not a thing!" I yelled back at her, and Mia nodded.
"What, I'm bleeding! I swear your child has fangs or something!" My mother cried out.
Emily and I exchanged glances and Mia smirked.
"You know mom, children teeth." Emily said with a forced laugh. "I will just bandage that up for you..." she said quietly.

"Logan...come over here...let your mother fix your hair." My mom demanded.
"Mom, I can vote and drink alcohol I do not need you to-"
"It's sticking up!" she said shrilly.
I rolled my eyes and moved closer to her.
She wove her thin hands into my hair and began trying to smother it down.
"I swear...just like your father...so unruly...have you never used a comb?" she muttered, and I pretended not to hear her.

"You couldn't have dressed nicer? This is the first time you visit your family in years! Your father's funeral for heaven's sake! You couldn't put on a tie!?" she grumbled.
"Mom I am wearing a tie-" she cut me off with her rambling.
"And whose that little one?" she asked, nodding her head to the corner.
Chance gave my mother a toothy grin, and Mia whispered something in his ear.
Oh no.

Chase crawled over to us, for some reason choosing not to walk.
He climbed up my mothers knee and smiled an angelic smile.
"Hello grandma!" He said happily.
"Well hello there! What a handsome young fellow you are!" My mother cooed, scooping him up before I could stop her.
"Thank you!" Chance said happily, snuggling into my mother's side.
I gave Mia a pointed look and she just grinned.
I would be watching those two.
The doorbell rang and Emily's husband Mortimer answered the door.

"Momma!" Mia cheered, running over into Becks arms.
"Mia! Hi baby!" Becks said, tickling Mia, who was beaming happily in her mother's arms.
"Mother, this is my best friend and the mother of my youngest five, Becks Best."
"FIVE?!" my mother said in disbelief.
"Yes, three in hers and then my youngest twins here." I explained.
Becks smiled and held her hand out "It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Fey."
My mother stared at her hand disdainfully, carefully watching Mia out of the corner of her eye.
Probably a smart idea.
"Mommy...Mia is hungy!" Mia said, in her usual demanding way.
I rolled my eyes at her.
"I'll make her a bottle-"
"No Mia wants the good kind daddy." Mia told me, as if I was stupid.
Becks took a seat in the armchair next to my mother's and pulled some of her top down and lifted Mia up to her breast.
My mother's eyes widened and she looked like she would faint from shock.

"What is she doing!?!?!" my mother screeched, as if Becks wasn't in the room.
Becks looked over at my mom and then turned away to talk to Emily.
"Mom, Mia and Chance are still young, they need their nourishment..."
"They are talking and walking!"
"They are...advanced for their age..." I said slowly, ignoring Chance's little smirk.
"Momma Chance too!" Chance whined, unsnuggling from his grandma.
My mom looked at him wide eyed, clearly horrified.
"Come here Chance, mommy can feed you and your sister at the same time." Becks said.
My mom shoved Chance at me and I handed him to Becks.
My mother continued to stare, and Becks pretended not to notice.
"Mom..." I hissed awkwardly.
"They...they sure eat a lot. My goodness Logan they are like little wolves!" she said.
Becks started laughing and I rolled my eyes.
"Mia sweetie. Aren't you done? You can come be nice with grandma?" My mother suggested.
Mia glared at my mother, not happy with the interuption.
"Mia is busy grandma." she said, before going back to her meal.
Becks just laughed more.
"Kids...they just say the darndest things..." she trailed off into silence under my mom's glare.

"Logan!" I heard one of my favorite voices call out.
"Amanda!" I said, embracing my little sister.
I glanced down at her growing belly and smiled.
"Is my little sis having a baby?" I joked. Amanda smiled.
"No Logan, I just swallowed a bowling ball." She deadpanned, looking completely serious.
We both dissolved into laughter.
"It's good to see you!" She said, hugging me again.
"Yeah...if only the circumstances..." I trailed off.
"Amanda! Amanda dear! Mother is right here!" My mother squealed.
Amanda smiled tightly "Hi mom." she said, kissing her cheek.

Mia finally unlatched herself from Becks and scrambled over to me.
"Mia this is your aunt Amanda." I explained.
Mia opened her arms wide.
"No Auntie Amanda can't hold you, she's holding her own baby." I explained, pointing to my younger sisters stomach.
Mia reached out and I held Mia up so she could touch Amanda's bump.
Mia smiled a cute little smile at Amanda.
"I wuv you auntie!" she said cutely.
"Aw, Logan she is a doll! I have some candy in my pocket, who wants some?" She cooed at Mia.
Mia grinned and clapped her hands. She must have smelled the candy.
Smart girl.
"Me me me Mia!" she cheered.

I saw Adele trying to sneak from the kitchen up the stairs.
"Mom, this is my daughter Adele." I said, stopping Adele in her tracks.
She turned and waved shyly at my mother.
My mom's smile tightened.
"Young lady, your skirt is quite short." my mother said icily.
Adele looked down at the pink ruffled skirt that I'd forced her to wear.
"Um...my other one was in the wash..." she lied awkwardly.
"If it doesn't reach your knees, only bad men does it please!" my mother sang.
"Oh God, she's going to break out the rhyming lessons." Amanda whispered.
"I'm going to make some drinks!" Emily said cheerily "With extra alcohol..." she muttered.
"Yes please." Becks muttered.

"Logan! Adele looks just like you!" my mother said.
Everyone went back to smiling again, it was true.
"It's too bad your facial structure isn't appealing on women." she finished.
Jaws dropped, but no one spoke.
"That nose...it's a bit large...have you ever considered...fixing that?" she asked, surveying my daughters nose.
My daughters face turned scarlet.
 "I-I-I..."
"Stuttering is not becoming of a proper young lady. If a woman can't speak her word, she might as well let the cheese curd."
Adele rushed out of the room embarrassed.
"Didn't even excuse herself! Logan! Do none of your children know proper manners?" my mother demanded.

...It was happening all over again...Nobody was ever good enough...

~Flashback~

"Logan did you wash your hands?!" My mother's shrill voice rang through the house.
"Yes mom, twice." I told her with a sigh.
"Don't you back sass!" she scolded me. "Sophia, no more juice! You don't need more sugar!" my mother turned to scold my sister, who put down her juice sadly.
"Hey, I'm home!" A booming voice came through the door.
"Dad!" "Daddy!" Sophia and I rushed into his arms. Amanda tottled over.
"Stuart! I was just getting them settled for dinner! Now I have to start all over again!" my mother fumed.

My dad loosened his grip on us.
"How was your day Honey?" he asked, leaning to give her a kiss.
She dodged him and walked over to pick up Amanda.
"Logan! How many times do I have to tell you to go wash your hands!?" she shouted, pointing toward the bathroom.
"Mom I washed my hands-"
"NOW." She screamed, pulling at her hair. Amanda started to cry in my mother's arms.
"Quiet you!" My mother said, walking with Amanda into her bedroom.
"I can't handle you all! Stuart! Serve the kids dinner!" she yelled, disappearing into the back room of our house.

~End flashback~

"Emily! I need to use the restroom! Help me up dear!" My mother snapped at my sister.
"Of course mom!" Emily said, rushing from making the drinks over to helping my mother out of her chair and out of the room.
After she left there was a fragrant pause.
"She's a gem." Becks said.
Amanda and I started to laugh.
I brought the drinks Emily made over.
"Cheers to that!" she said. We all clinked our glasses and said "Aye!"
"Please tell me you don't have more children for mom to meet." Amanda said rubbing her temples.
"Ugh." I groaned. Just June and Blake, who no doubt would not take a liking to grandma.

"So the funeral is tomorrow?" I asked.
"Yes." Amanda responded.
"Where are Danielle and Mckayla?" I asked, wondering where my two youngest sisters were.
My sister turned to me with a shocked look.
"You don't know?" Amanda asked.
"Clearly." I said agitated.
"They weren't invited...Danielle and Mckayla aren't dad's daughters..."

 ~Flashback~

"Work, work, work! It's always work Stuart!" my mother shouted.
"There's nothing I can do about it Mackenzie! It's my job, I have to pay these bills and feed our kids!" my father shouted back.
"Our kids?! You're never even here! They might as well just be mine!" she shouted, ignoring the crying that sounded from the nursery.
"Great! Now you've woken them up!" she yelled at him, shoving him.
"You're the one shouting!" he said to her.

"Why don't you just leave?! We'd be better without you!" She screamed.
"I'm not leaving my kids with you! Or the twins!" he told her firmly.
The crying's volume increased and my mom stormed off, ignoring me and going into the nursery.
I stood there in the hall, staring at my dad.
"Dad?" I asked, my voice sounding small and vulnerable.
"Logan...hey buddy...you should be asleep." He told me, wrapping his arms around me.
"...Please don't go to work anymore...don't leave us with mom..." I begged him, tears coming to my eyes.
My dad gave me a sad smile "Let's get you to bed." he said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

 ~Flashback end~

"So mom cheated." I said.
"Yeah." Amanda said quietly.
"You ok?" I asked her. I grabbed and squeezed her hand.
"Are any of us really ok?" She asked tearing up.
"I can't believe dad is gone." she whispered.
I nodded numbly.
"Danielle tried to come but when mom saw her...she decided maybe it would be better if she left." Amanda explained.
Emily helped my mother back into the armchair.
"So...who wants something to eat? I made salad, a roast, some angels food cake." Emily said, ushering us into the dining area.

~Blake's Pov~

"I dare you to poke him." I whispered to Adele, who shoved me in the side.
Mia reached toward grandpa in the casket, Adele quickly grabbed her hand.
"Mia, no touching!" Adele hissed.
"We can't just go poking him Blake, he's dead." Adele said.
"I'm aware Adele, I'm not a moron." I scowled.
"HE'S NOT MOVING!" Chance said loudly, causing everyone there to look over.
I looked over at June who was looking down at her feet. I nudged her gently.
"You ok June bug?" I asked her.
She hummed loudly and shook her head no.
"MIA!" Adele shouted, pulling Mia away from the casket. She had been squeezing grandpa's nose.
"Grandpa's got a big nose!" she announced, and Adele sighed carrying her away.

The priest droned on and on in a dull tone. He'd finished talking about my grandpa's many accomplishments and was now talking about how Jesus ascended into heaven.
Man this was boring.
June's head was leaning on my shoulder, and getting heavier by the second.
She was probably falling asleep. Eight year old's shouldn't have to sit through funerals.
She let out a breath that sounded kind of like a sob and I frowned.
"It's ok June bug." I whispered to her. She hummed and then stomped her foot, her usual form of communication.

~Logan's POV~

I was listening to the priest talk about how Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
If anyone in my family was going to heaven, it was my dad.
He'd spent his whole life fighting crime, pursing justice for those who did evil.
He was a good man, the calm in the storm that was our family.
He looked so different in the casket from the man I'd known and loved, yet he looked...at peace.
What a crazy messed up world we lived in.

Mia was standing in my lap, trying to get her footing.
She finally managed to stand up in my lap, keeping herself balanced by holding on to my face.
"Daddy, I want bacon ice cream." Mia said, sticking her lower lip out.
The puppy dog face suited her well.
"You can have ice cream later Mia, we have to be quiet right now." I told her quietly.
She made a face at me, and began tugging at my ears and poking my nose.
"Look daddy your ears are floppy like a puppy!" she squealed, flapping my ears.
I didn't need to turn to know my mother was glaring at us.

I smiled sadly, remembering the last time I'd seen my dad.

~Flashback~

"She's so big Logan!" my dad said happily, lifting Carlie up over his head. Peals of laughter came from Carlie's mouth, a wide grin spread over her face.
"Higher Gwampa!" Carlie cheered. My dad laughed and tickled her.
"I know, she grows an inch a day!" I exclaimed laughing.
My dad relaxed with Carlie into the old rocker while I took the porch lounger.
"I remember when you were a lil guy...just like Carlie here." my dad said fondly with a smile.
"Dad!" I said jokingly, pretending to be embarrassed like when I was a teenager.
"You were just as cute...only you were bald." he said laughing. I laughed too.
"Wonder whose side of the family that comes from..." I joked, rubbing his balding head.
We both laughed together.

"Logan...you know things weren't always easy with your mother and I..." my father began, as Carlie fell asleep on his shoulder.
"I know dad...but I don't blame you for that." I told him.
He smiled sadly at me.
"Well I just want you to know that just because things were hard doesn't mean I loved you any less than a dad should." He told me. It was my turn to smile sadly at him.
"Of course not dad, I love you too." I replied.
"I'm sorry I let your mom send you off to boarding school."
I shuddered thinking of that military school. But it was all in the past.
"It's fine dad."
"I'm proud of you son." He told me, a tear in his eye.
"Thanks dad, that means a lot." I told him.

~End flashback~

~Back in Sunlit Tides~

Chloe: So you're a werewolf now?
Logan: What the...how did you know?
Chloe: A little birdie told me...
Logan: Was the birdie purple?
Chloe: Don't freak out, it's not like she's gonna tell anyone else.
Logan: Well yeah, I am a werewolf.
Chloe: All that awkward chest hair...
Logan: Not funny!

Chloe: Down dog. How is everything else?
Logan: Well you heard about my dad's funeral right?
Chloe: Yeah, sorry to hear about that.
Logan: Yeah...
Chloe: Sorry to hear about your mom too.
Logan: What about my mom?
Chloe: Becks described her to me.
Logan: Oh...yeah...she's uh...real special...

Logan: So what are the kids up to?
Chloe: Same old same old, excited to move.
Logan: It's great that you're moving to Sunlit Tides
Chloe: It really is, you should finish up my house.
Logan: lol I'll get there.
Chloe: So what are your kids up to?
Logan:...I'm not sure...

~Adele's Pov~

Dai wanted to go to the beach, at night, for reasons unknown to me.
That's when the sharks come out right?
I mean...seriously they are active at night right?
Well, either way I wouldn't be swimming in the dark, no way.
I casually strolled out our front door, hollering a goodbye to my dad.

I walked the short path to the beach, it was a very convenient set up.
I could see the lights on in Dai's house, and Maggie stood at the window pressed up against the glass.
I blew her kisses and she pressed her lips up against the glass.
AWE! Could my sister be any cuter?
I waved to her and she pressed herself against the glass, smiling at me.
Dai and I would have to head over there after the beach.

When I got to the beach Dai immediately ran out of the water and embraced me.
"Hey you." he said, kissing my cheek.
"Hey." I said happily, maybe being on the beach at night could be fun.
After all, Dai was with me.
"Come over here, I wanna show you something." Dai said to me, grabbing my hand.
"You better not throw me in the water!" I joked, knowing that he wouldn't.
"I wouldn't dare." he told me seriously.
We both started to laugh.

We arrived at a cozy little strip of the beach.
I gasped in awe and turned and hugged Dai.
"It's amazing!" I told him.
"I wanted to do something nice for you after your trip." he told me.
"That's the sweetest thing ever Dai!" I told him excitedly.
"It's just a little something something." He said, blushing lightly.

Spread out on the ground before us was a picnic basket, next to a cake.
It was surrounded by cute little candles in tiny glass vases.
A heart was drawn in the sand right next to the picnic basket.
I awed on the inside, Dai was the sweetest boy ever.

He took my hand and we sat on the sand, gazing up at the stars.
His hand rested warmly on top of mine, giving it a little squeeze.
"I love this." I told him smiling.
"I'm glad." He told me, and I could tell without looking that he was smiling too.

"Look at all those stars." I said slowly, taking in the brightly shining lights.
"They remind me of holiday lights spread in the sky." Dai told me.
"When Sparkles left your mom told me that Stars are little holes in the sky where the angels watch us from Heaven." I explained.
"I like that idea." Dai said.
"Me too."

"Shall we eat?" Dai asked me.
"Yes, we shall." I answered in a mock British accent.
"Hotdogs ok?" Dai asked me.
"I love hotdogs!" I cheered, squeezing the mustard out onto mine.
"You mentioned it once, and something about your dad not making them?"
"Yeah, when he was a kid he read a book in school called "Where Do Hotdogs Come From?" I answered.
"So where do they come from?" Dai asked.
"I didn't want to know." I told him truthfully and we laughed.

I turned toward the sky again, admiring the stars.
"I bet your grandpa is watching through one of those holes, and is really proud of you." He told me with a nudge. I smiled at him.
"Maybe, not if he's anything like my grandma." I scoffed.
"Yeah my mom told me some interesting stories..." He started, and then frowned.
"Did she say anything to you?" he asked me, examining my face.
I sighed. "I have manly facial features."
He looked at me with a look of disbelief and suddenly pulled me close to him.

"That's not true, your facial features are perfect." He told me.
I continued "and my nose is too big."
"Your nose is adorable, it's so round and cute." He corrected.
I paused, not sure how to respond to that.
"Adele, you are the most gorgeous girl I know!" Dai told me seriously.
I just stared blankly at him, of course he thought that, he's my best friend.
"Adele, you've always been beautiful, when we were little, when we were preteens, and now." he explained to me.

"My grandma said my dad's facial shape looks horrible on woman." I responded dully.
"Well your grandma is clearly blind, and she doesn't deserve to have a granddaughter as great as you are." he told me, grabbing onto my hand.
"My grandma-"
"It doesn't matter what your grandma said." he cut me off.
He squeezed my hand tightly. "Your grandma is wrong."
I looked at him, my eyes probably full of doubt. I wasn't pretty. I mean, I wasn't ugly, but I certainly wasn't Kelly or Veronica.

"I wish you could see yourself the way I see you." he whispered to me.
I smiled at him "I doubt you see yourself the way I see you either."
"Really now? How exactly do you see me Ms. Adele?" he asked me.
"Well." I responded cheekily and we both laughed.
My tone grew serious "I see you as kind. The kindest boy I know. You're nice to everybody, even people who aren't nice to you back. You love animals and you're so good with kids and they love you. Heck everybody loves you! You're really smart, and if you're not smart at something your always trying to do better in it. Even if it's not school stuff you push yourself to do your best and you always try your hardest. You're funny in a nice way, not in a mean way or even a sarcastic way. You have the best kind of humor there is because it's funny and kind. You're amazing, inside and out. You always look great and you have nice hair and the prettiest eyes and without a shirt on you look like a God-"
"A God huh?" he cut me off with a smile.
I blushed a deep red. "Uh...um..." he just smiled at me kindly.
We gazed into each others eyes.
He leaned over toward me, his face inches from mine.
I closed the gap.

I loved kissing Dai.
 I loved being with Dai.
I loved Dai.
"Dai?" I said quietly, momentarily pulling my lips away from his.
"Yes?" he asked looking semi-worried. He looked so cute when he was worried.
"I love you." I whispered softly, but loud enough for him to hear.

He suddenly stood up with me in his arms in one movement, swinging me around.
"Dai!" I giggled, enjoying the feeling of his strong arms around me and my feet off of the cool sand.
He pulled me to him in a passionate kiss, a real kiss, not just a peck on the cheek.
"I love you too Adele. So much." he told me.
I blushed and pressed my lips to his again, in another real kiss.
This was perfect.

~June's Pov~

So the funeral was over and grandpa was gone and we were home.
Dad told me not to come out in of the bathroom until I washed the makeup off my face.
I wasn't going to though. I liked the feel of, the sensation of pressure on my face that it created.
Usually I didn't like things touching me. Like my clothes.
When nobody else was around I would wear just my undershirt and underwear.
Clothing was so heavy and I felt it like pins and needles all over
. I sighed and threw my shirt and skirt to be in my undershirt and underwear.
I didn't feel the prickly feeling as much now.

I could hear everything.
 It was happening without me.
Downstairs I could hear Blake. He was on the phone with Lucy.
I couldn't hear her but I knew it was her because I heard him dial the number.
Each number button makes a different sound. All you have to do is listen to the sounds and then you know what number is dialed.
Adele was outside with her new foal. It was a unicorn.
Unicorn, real or not real? I guess real if we had one.

I could hear the water running through the pipes.
Outside I could hear the wind, it was barely blowing today.
I could hear the cats soft paws on the kitchen counter, the normal horse, real or not real; real, munching on something.
I could tell by the sound it was grass. When the horse ate hay it sounded different.
Everything was too loud and the tile felt to cold against my skin, it was stinging me.
I didn't like it. I wanted it gone.
I wanted everything to be gone.

I let out a hum.
 I do that a lot.
Most of the time I don't notice I'm doing it.
My teachers tell me to knock if off but I don't.
  I hum.
I also stomp my feet sometimes too, and press my head into things.
My head is always hurting, it feels like someone is pressing it all the time. Nothing makes it better. Sometimes thinking makes it easier. I do times tables in my head.
 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36. I can go higher but instead I go onto fives.
 Not fours. Fours is evens.
 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60.

I hummed again this time stomping my feet.
It makes things better for a little. So I do it again.
Then I have to do it again so I did it three times. Two is an even number. I don't like evens.
I decide to get in the bathtub, the empty tub.
I don't like how water feels against my skin. It's too many feelings at the same time, it's everywhere all around.
The tub is ok because it's white.
White is ok. Yellow is on the walls, yellow is not ok.
I close my eyes and stomp again wanting the yellow to not be there anymore.
I have to stomp again though, that way it's five.

I hear footsteps coming up the stairs, and then around the door.
They are coming this way, it's Adele cause Adele walks different then Blake and Dad walk and Mia and Chance only run because they are wolfs like dad. Dad is a wolf. Real or not real? Real if my memory was right.

"Hey Junebug." Adele said, coming through the door without knocking. Dad must have told her I was in timeout. I wonder how much time had passed in time out. If the clock ticked every second and I listened and heard ten ticks over that period of time and 60 ticks makes up a minute then I've been in here for-
Adele talking interuptted my thoughts "You ok?" she asked me, giving me a long stare.
I hummed.

"Yes." I answered shortly, wanting to her leave.
Blake was ok, Chance was ok, Dad was sometimes ok, Auntie Becks was not ok, Mia was not ok, Miss Addy was not ok, Adele is not ok.
Grandma doesn't even get to be on the list.
"Why are you still wearing your makeup from the funeral?" she asked me, peering at my face.
I didn't answer, but I hummed again and stomped, then stomped again for seven.

"Is your head hurting again?" she asked me gently.
I nodded my head yes. How did Adele know about my head hurting? I only ever told Blake I think.
She pressed her wrist against my forehead and pressed into my skin.
It felt so good, pressure, finally, relief.
"Makeup feels good on my face." I told Adele softly.
"Hm. Well what if you took the makeup off?" she suggested, not moving her hand.
She better not move it.
"No. It stays on." I told her.

"If you take it off maybe you can have some marshmallows?" Adele suggested.
MARSHMALLOWS.
I LOVE MARSHMALLOWS BECAUSE THEY ARE SOFT AND SQUISHY AND PERFECT AND THEY AREN'T TOO MUCH TASTE OR PRICKLING AND THEY ARE YUMMY AND I WANT TO EAT THEM ALL.
I noticed Adele smiling, I must have perked up a bit at the mention of my favorite food.
I crossed my arms over my chest "Blake will get me marshmallow any time I ask." I told her.
Blake got me marshmallow. I liked Blake. Blake was my favorite. I loved him. He was a good brother.

"What if I take off the makeup and then I paint your face? Then you'll still feel like you're wearing makeup." Adele suggested.
I thought about it. Makeup off, paint on. Not normal paint, paint for faces. For my face.
I hummed again.
"Face paint?"
"Face paint." she repeated.
"No yellow." I told her.
"No yellow." she repeated back to me. Good. Everyone should do that cause that way everybody is sure of everything and that's how it should be because it's good.
"No black." I told her.
"No black."
"No gray." I said firmly
"No gray."
"Pink!"
"Ok, pink." she repeated.
"Blue!" I cheered loudly.
"Ok, blue." she said.
"Ummmm green."
"Green?" she asked.
"Green." I told her.
"Ok, pink, blue, and green."
"No diamonds." I told her carefully.
"No diamonds." she replied.

Adele took a washcloth and got it wet.
"Don't touch!" I yelled at her.
"I'm just going to wipe your face with the cloth June, I won't touch you." she promised.
"No touching." I repeated, making sure she understood.
"No touching." she confirmed. I doubted her but I shut my eyes.
She wiped the cool cloth across my face and I couldn't help it, I squirmed.
The feeling was all over and everywhere and it was moving it wasn't constant like my other feelings like my head.
"There, it's all off." she told me.

"Hurry! I don't like how this feels!" I screamed at her, unable to help myself.
Sometimes I do things that I can't control, like when I hum and stomp.
"Ok." she said calmly, and dabbed her finger into a little jar.
"June it's not going to work if your crying." she said gently.
I kicked her and started to scream.
Bring the pressure back! I want it back! Why is it gone! Why does it feel so weird! Why do I feel this and nobody else does?!

"Adele! What are you doing to June!" Blake yelled, storming into the room.
"I have to paint her face-"
"June doesn't like people touching her Adele, back off!" He yelled at Adele, quickly coming to my side.
"I'm helping her Blake." she told him calmly.
I was still screaming but nobody was listening to me. I stomped again. then again to make it an odd number. But that meant that I stomped twice which was not an odd number, it was an even.
Everything was wrong, and everything hurt and I wanted everything to be over alright!
They were screaming and I wanted them to stop, only I should be screaming, I can't stop screaming, I want to stop, but I can't and now I'm losing control.
I threw myself to the floor violently and started banging my head against the cool tile, trying to relieve the pressure.

I felt hands, someone was touching me, I reached out and bit them, hard and I held on.
Now there was other screaming and more people and shouting and everyone was touching me.
EVERYONE STOP TOUCHING ME.
STOP MAKING NOISE.
ITS TOO MUCH.
TOO MUCH ALL THE TIME.
STOP.
STOP.
